Map in Progress

Not-all-those-who-wander-are-lost-620x413

Having a plan is not what life’s about,
It was made clear when I changed my route.
Blinded from aspect with my tunnel vision,
This new direction does not change my mission.

Viridian envy crawls up my spine,
When I think my path is not inclined.
Each day is a new scene,
I grow farther from where I’ve been.

Curving roads and mountains to climb,
Often I fear I’ll run out of time.
I try my best and do what I can,
And put all the rest into His hands.

My map has no point A to point B,
it is twisting and turning,
even I cannot see
Where my journey will end up taking me.

I already made a poem for Day 5 of the Writing 201 course, but I was still inspired by the theme of maps so I came up with this one. Differing from my poem about wanting to dance with faeries, this one is about my reality. Compared to some other people in my age group, some are married with families and have steady jobs. I’m still living with my parents and trying to get into grad school so I can make my own way and support myself. I am not at all ashamed at where I am in my life at the moment.

None of us know what will happen to us tomorrow or 5 minutes from now. I do hope that my poem gives others who feel stuck some hope that their map is still being written as they go, just like mine is too. 🙂 Cheers!

After I read your note underneath the ode, I reread the poetry and it puts the words into perspective for me. I believe it is because some of our circumstances are the same. I do really appreciate the inspiration you offered in the note. *timely*

  4. I like to suppose that people in general feels that way…only the lucky few ever knew where they’re going. It’s opposed to those who take the route wherever life leads them, not because they want to, but because they don’t have a choice. And if they do, they don’t know if it’s the one they really wanted.

That’s a different taken on it, when you put it that way then maybe having the freedom of not knowing what you want to do is a lot better and gives you the chance to be true to yourself. Thanks for the insight!
