Interview with a Zombie (NaBloPoMo Day 5)

I’m posting this a day late, but with good reason! I was out of town this weekend and just recently got home. In an earlier post I mentioned how nervous I was for an upcoming graduate program interview, well that interview happened this morning. Now let me specify, that I am the “zombie” I explained in the title (just in case any of the professors read this, I wasn’t talking about them!) I was running on pure adrenaline and my heart was beating a mile a minute the same way.

I don’t know about anyone else but I prefer writing to speaking because I can articulate my words better and (I think) sound more eloquent in doing so. I think I’m a fairly good public speaker but when I get nervous, my words tend to fumble. Especially when I don’t think things through of what I want to say, but that only happened twice during the interview. Overall I had a good experience, and on the way home I took a well-deserved nap.

The weather on the other hand was very temperamental, as it was windy and raining. The campus is near the sea (Lovely, right? The view is gorgeous!) and the waves looked very strong. As soon as I got down from my car and opened my umbrella, the wind just made it flip in the other direction and broke it! I felt like I was in a cartoon.

Watch your step!

During my trip I also bought some books (oh ho, BIG surprise there) at the Half Price Books (my favorite store! Where you guessed it, everything is half price.) It was a small purchase of 3 books but I am still glad I got them at the prices I did.

Anyone like or dislike this series/saga? I’m a fan of the show and since there’s a lull between seasons I’ve started reading the books and yeah, it’s true what people say: The book is always better than the movie. (In this case, show.) But hey, it was priced 7.99 and I had a 40% coupon so it came out to 4.79. For a brand new book that’s a good deal.

I went to the clearance aisle and found this classic for 3 bucks. I’m a fan of the series so I had to have this for my collection. I still haven’t read The Lord of the Rings, but now that I have the whole set completed, I will start. Mind you, I do have a long list of books to read. (Still working on American Gods. Nearly done!)

Also in the clearance aisle I found this one for 1 dollar! It is a used copy but in very fine condition so I didn’t mind. I bought it at the recommendation of one of my blogger friends Rosemawrites on A Reading Writer  who said it was “meloncholic and creepy”. I do love some creepy literature!

I hope you all enjoy the rest of your weekend. Cheers!

All good choices. My friends, who have read all of A Song of Fire and Ice, say it’s better than Game of Thrones. They are huge readers, unlike me. The Hobbit I remember from an old cartoon, and then I saw the trilogy of movies, and the 2nd one, is by far the best one. Haven’t read this or the Lord of the Rings. The Lovely Bones I’m only familiar with the movie with Saoirse Ronan (I’m sure I butchered her name but saying it is harder). Heck, Peter Jackson directed that movie, too. So that is 7 Peter Jackson movies to see. Homework 😉

I trust your interview went well and the best happens as a result of applying. Yes, the sea view sounds great. And, yes, I would have felt I had landed in a Looney Tune as well. As for the books, good buys! The length of the Game of Thrones series (both in book and on TV) is daunting, though maybe I’ll give it a try. If I had a favorite book to say, I should say the Bible but might say The Hobbit instead. It’s been formative. And I recently picked up the last story, too, I guess because I like creepy literature, too. And creepy films (that mean to be). Thank you!
